OUR IMPACT

Though our volunteer service trips are an important facet of Kids Play Int’l, providing sustainable programs is also essential.  KPI believes that educating African youth is the key for success later in life and with that, has created an after-school program that uses sports as the key vehicle to teach life skills and the importance of physical fitness and healthy living.
KPI is dedicated to tackling the tough issues that African youth face while also giving them tools to make decisions that will improve the quality of their lives.  The KPI after-school program teaches success through:
S    Setting goals and learning how to achieve those goals.
P    Physical Fitness
O   Opportunity that is equal for both boys and girls.
R   Respecting yourself and those around you.
T    Teamwork and benefits of hard work and determination.
S    Stressing the importance of Healthy Living.
The program will teach life skills to help develop kids’ critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, offer leadership development, promote teambuilding and teach about healthy living including HIV/AIDS prevention and the importance of being physically fit.
KPI will help girls learn to empower themselves so that they will have the confidence, self-esteem and personal freedom to become young women who can persevere when faced with adversity. The program will also stress the importance of staying in school and working hard enabling them to achieve their goals throughout their lives. Team and individual sports encourage not only healthy competition but they also help promote gender equity and help eradicate boundaries to bring children together.
All of these lessons can be beneficial in every aspect of life, not just in the sporting arena but cannot really be instilled until they are put into practice. KPI believes sport programs provide the vehicle to reinforce these lessons and will encourage positive behavior. Developing such attributes at an early age can only increase the chances for success later in life.

PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION:
KPI will assemble a team of educational, international health and sports professionals to advise, create and implement the overall program including curriculum development, lesson plans, monitoring and evaluation plans and the training program for volunteers and orphanage staff.
KPI understands the importance of creating a program that involves local partners and reflects community values.  With that KPI will train and initially supervise the teachers, coaches and administrators until they are confident in their roles to run the after school program on their own.  Program will ultimately be sustained by local staff at each orphanage.
The after school program will introduce new sports such as:
Volleyball
Basketball
Track and field
Baseball
Tennis
Tumbling
and will provide a training program to improve and hone sport-specific skills for local sports such as:
Soccer
Net Ball
The after-school activities will begin and operate daily from 2-5 p.m. There will be a calendar of activities outlining, sport, lesson of the day, age group and gender participating that day.
